Bolgatanga, Jan 21 – The Sacred Heart Cathedral Parish in Bolgatanga, through the St Vincent de Paul Society, a charity wing of the Church, has extended support to needy persons within and outside the parish as part of activities marking the New Year celebrations.
In all, about 60 vulnerable persons received raw food items, clothing and a hot meal, in a gesture aimed at sharing the joy of the New Year and reassuring them that they were not forgotten by the Church and society.
The Cathedral also sponsored the education of about 50 needy but brilliant students, ranging from the basic level to tertiary institutions, to enable them to continue their studies and build a better future.
Speaking at a brief ceremony, the Administrator of the Sacred Heart Cathedral Parish, Very Reverend Father Samuel Ayinbora Atinga, thanked God for the lives of the beneficiaries and encouraged them to remain hopeful despite their challenges.
He urged them to also show kindness to others in their own small ways whenever they had the opportunity, noting that acts of love and generosity helped to strengthen community bonds.
Father Atinga who is also the Parish Priest of the Parish, assured the beneficiaries of the Church’s continued care and support, and encouraged them not to give up on their aspirations.
The programme ended on a joyful note as the beneficiaries received their items amid smiles, gratitude and renewed hope, marking the beginning of the New Year in an atmosphere of love and solidarity.
