Adaklu Wumenu (V/R), Jan 30, 2026 – Mr Jerry Yao Ameko, Adaklu District Chief Executive (DCE) Thursday reiterated that education remained the bedrock of national development that touched every sector including law, governance and agriculture.

He therefore described Kindergarten (KG) education as a very critical foundation of formal education.

Mr Ameko, who is also the Dean of Volta Region MDCEs, stated this when he cut the sod for the construction of an ultra-modern classroom block for Adaklu Wumenu Kindergarten.

The project would comprise two classrooms, a kitchen, three washrooms, a playground, and a well-fenced perimeter wall and is expected to be completed in six months.

Mr Ameko noted that children’s early years were critical for shaping their future, so KG education needed not to be toyed with.

The DCE stated that modern kindergarten education went beyond play, as children’s activities were now structured to align them with future careers and lifelong learning.

He disclosed that government and the District Assembly were putting in place interventions to ease the financial burden on parents including the school feeding programme and the free education policy.

Mr Ameko disclosed that Mr. Governs Kwame Agbodza, Minister for Roads and Highways and Member of Parliament for Adaklu and the District Assembly were also as part of the interventions were sponsoring one mock examination each out of the three Basic Education Certificate Examination mocks conducted for BECE candidates every year in the Adaklu district adding that parents were to pay for only one mock examination.

He urged the Adaklu District Directorate of Education to intensify monitoring and supervision in schools in the district to ensure quality teaching and learning.

The DCE encouraged pupils and students in the district to take their studies seriously so that the massive investment being made by government, the the MP and the Assembly would yield the desired results.

Addressing the perception that it was only low-quality teachers that were posted to rural communities, he stressed that teachers in Adaklu were equally qualified as those in urban areas and that postings were based on where services were needed, not on merit or academic qualification or ability.

Mr. Ameko therefore urged the people to accord teachers in their communities with the same respect and honour as those teaching in the cities.

Mr Godfred Tampo, Headteacher of the school, expressed his gratitude for the project, describing it as a long-awaited intervention that would finally provide KG learners with a befitting and a safe environment for learning.

Togbe Kwasi Sekpe III, Chief of the community, expressed his people’s appreciation for the NDC government, the MP and the DCE for responding to their needs, particularly the critical lack of KG infrastructure.

He pledged the full support of the community to the contractor to ensure that the project was completed as scheduled.
